Mr. Richard Hartz, age 98 of East Bend passed away on Friday February 16, 2018 at the Brian Center in Winston Salem.
Mr. Hartz was born in Alleghany County PA on November 30, 1919 to the late Warren Binbent and Romaine Newcomer Hartz. He was a graduate of South Hills High School and the earned a degree at the University of Pittsburg where he was active with the ROTC program. Upon graduation from the university, he signed up for the Army in WWII, leaving with the rank of Lieutenant. Being an accomplished violinist, Mr. Hartz was a member of the Salem Community Orchestra as well as the orchestras in both schools. The Forysth Gem and Mineral Club, Inc. was honored to have him as an active member since 1974. His polishing of rocks at the annual show was of great appeal to the public. Being a meticulous accountant, he also taught accounting at Forsyth Technical College for many years. Mr. Hartz built three family homes from designing the blueprints to full construction, plumbing, wiring and laying of stone. Those of us who are honored to know him, were honored to know a multifaceted and accomplished man.
Those left to cherish his memory are a daughter Trudi Ann Hartz of East Bend; a companion cat Schnooker; and multiple friends, acquaintances, and church members.
