Ralph "Sandy" Poindexter

Mr. Ralph Alexander "Sandy" Poindexter, age 70, of East Bend, passed away on Friday January 3, 2025 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

Mr. Poindexter was born on January 31, 1954, in Forsyth County, to the late Ralph Poindexter and Virginia Smitherman Poindexter.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter Meredith Brooks and two grandsons Jeremiah Brooks and Heath Hill III.

Mr. Poindexter had a true love for music and traveled the world playing with his group the Matrix Brass Quintet.  He was also first chair trombone in the Winston Salem Symphany and was a musical instrument technician.  Mr. Poindexter was also an educator and band director for the NC school system including over 20 years of service in Yadkin County.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Linda Hill of the home; five sons Dean (Tandi) Castor Jr. of Hilton Head, William Regnery of Hollywood, Florida, David (Leigh Anne) Regnery of East Bend, Heath (Ashley) Hill II of East Bend, and L.P. (Alyson) Hill II of Winston Salem; a daughter Juliet (Mark) Hennessy of Knoxville, TN; step mother Carolyn Poindexter of East Bend; three sisters Caroline Taylor of Columbia, SC, Julia (Dwight) Hinnant of Oak Island, and Brooke (Scott) Balun of Alpharetta, GA; a brother Bradley Poindexter of East Bend; grandchildren Ellissa (Jason) Nelson, Blake Hennessy, Kerry Hennessy, Kelly Hennessy, Kirby (Seth) Adams, Read Castor, Grant Castor, William Regnery III, Matthew Regnery, Elisabeth (Ross) Jeffries, Avery Johnson, Ashlyn Hill, and Luke Hill; great grandchildren Mason Nelson, Jaxson Nelson, and Kinsley Adams.

A celebration of life service for Mr. Poindexter will be held on Friday January 31, 2025 at 2pm at Huff Funeral Home with Bruce Updyke officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1pm-2pm prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Stony Knoll United Methodist Church Cemetery.
