John Williams Obituary

A much loved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle John Northrop Williams, 76, of East Bend, NC passed away Sunday evening August 18, 2019 with his wife and daughter present. He had bravely confronted Chronic Kidney Disease and fought COPD for years. He was born November 30, 1942 in Arlington, Virginia to John and Lela Williams. There he lived his childhood and graduated from Yorktown High School. He enlisted in the US Army and served during the Vietnam era and peacetime. He later attended college at Elon University in North Carolina. His career as a Construction Superintendent took him all over the nation building many big box stores and hotels. He was a member of the Military Order of the Stars and Bars and took great pride in his confederate heritage. He enjoyed grilling and spending time with his family and friends.

John married the love of his life, Kay in 2003. He quickly filled a void in his new families lives that they didn’t know existed with his unconditional and genuine love.

He is survived by the love of his life Kay; his sisters, Priscilla and her husband Tip Jennings; Marjorie Gewirtz and Greyling Van Alystne his children, John Northrup Williams, Jr.; Sheila and her husband Jim Williams; Michael and his wife Beth Warren; his grandchildren Melissa and her husband Toby Pegram, James Gardner, Madison, Miranda and Milaina Warren, Jonah and Miranda Williams; his great-grandchildren Grayson and Emery Pegram; his niece Liz and her husband Stephen Aust; and the rest of his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lela Williams and great-granddaughter Autumn Pegram.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 31st at Huff Funeral Home, 212 E. Main Street in East Bend at 1 pm. Please join us afterwards as we enjoy a BBQ cookout in his honor at their home at 469 Deer Trail Road also in East Bend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to his grandson Toby’s new plant church, City Park Church in Winston-Salem. A Go Fund me account has been setup.
