Jan Montgomery Culler

Jan Montgomery Culler, 67, of Tobaccoville, passed away at Novant Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022 after a brief illness.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hassel A. and Stella S. Montgomery, sister Laura Emily Whitman, and companion Steven “Rudy” Seagraves.
Leaving to cherish in her memory are her son K.C. Culler and wife Mo of Salisbury, sisters Fonda Gail (Pete) Cecile, of North Wilkesboro, Kathy Flinchum, of Walnut Cove, and brother Claude Daniel Montgomery, Sr. (Vicki), of Tobaccoville.
Jan is also lovingly survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A 1974 graduate of North Forsyth High School, Jan was a member of the Valkyrie dance team during her junior year and was later a bus driver during her senior year.
She was employed by several places, including AT&T, Duke Power and with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools as a bus driver on two additional occasions.
While working at Duke Power, she was a member of the recovery team that helped inventory damaged power lines and power poles during the May 5th Storm of 1989 that hit the Winston-Salem area. Later that year, she also worked in the same capacity during the cleanup and recovery following the landfall of Hurricane Hugo in both the Charlotte, N.C. and Charleston, S.C. areas.
The family requests that memorials be made in her honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or to the Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
A private family memorial service will be held at a date in the spring.
The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff of the Cardiac ICU on the fifth floor of Novant Forsyth Medical Center for the exemplary care that they provided.
