Homer Lester Speer

Homer Lester Speer, age 86, of East Bend, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, at Yadkin Nursing Care Center in Yadkinville. He was born on December 24, 1938, in Yadkin County to the late Lester and Alice Brown Speer.

Homer dedicated much of his life to tobacco farming, working tirelessly on the land he loved. He was known for his strong work ethic and devotion to his family and community.

Homer is survived by two sisters, Annie Leaman and Margaret Brown; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Robert Hunt.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hattie Johnson Speer; brothers Billy Speer and Dallas Speer; and sisters Ettalee Speer, Viola Hyatt, Luzana Brown, and Bessie Hutchens.

A funeral service to honor Mr. Speer’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Huff Funeral Home, with Bobby Watts officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow at East Bend Friends Cemetery.
