George Wayne Burns, of East Bend, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022. George was born in Winston-Salem on December 17, 1945 to Harry and Martha Austin Burns. He was preceded in death by his wife, of 37 years, Linda Lea Powell Burns. He is survived by daughter Kitsey Burns Harrison, her husband Morgan, and four-year old grandson Cullen; and daughter Angela Burns, her children Tyler Burns, Crystal Duncan, Meagan Duncan; and great grandchildren Jax, Jude, and Kade.
George loved to fish, share jokes with friends and spend time with Cullen, who lovingly called him Pawpaw. He was always up for a road trip adventure such as driving his daughter Kitsey up to Cana, Virginia to the fruit stands. It wouldn’t take much convincing for him to go all the way to the beach for an unplanned vacation, which he and Kitsey did on several occasions. During his career George worked as a project estimator for several different construction companies. In his later years, after retirement, he served as a town commissioner in East Bend.
A celebration of life gathering is planned for Sunday, April 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Elkin Municipal Park in the large picnic shelter.
