Mrs. Dorothy Potter, age 92, of East Bend, passed away on Sunday November 27, 2022 at Vienna Village Assisted Living.
Mrs. Potter was born on June 12, 1930 in Yadkin County to the late John Choplin and Amelia Blakely.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two husbands Ralph Matthews and Max Potter; a son Daniel Matthews; and several brothers and sisters.
When Dorothy was in school, she was a wonderful student. She was in the Beta Club, which meant that she couldn't get any grades lower than a B. She also enjoyed learning to speak French. After her school years, Mrs. Potter spent a lot of time traveling. She visited every state in our country, with the exception of North and South Dakota. She was even able to attend a banquet at the Robert E. Lee Hotel. After Dorothy got married, she added one more item to her list of achievements...she finally learned how to ride a bicycle. Later in life, Mrs. Potter retired from the United States Postal Service after man years of faithful service.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons Ricky (Janet) Matthews of Boonville and Erwin (Theresa) Matthews of Rural Hall; nine grandchildren Kelly Matthews, Patrick (Jennifer) Matthews, Cody (Amy) Matthews, Drew Matthews, Michael (Lauren) Matthews, Terri (Dustin) Watts, Casey (Nicole) Matthews, Megan Matthews, and Lucas (Sarah) Matthews; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mrs. Potter will be held on Thursday December 1, 2022 at 2pm at East Bend Baptist Church with the Pastor Alan Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Potter will lie in state from 1pm-2pm prior to the service at the church. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
