Bonnie Virginia Matthews Brown, 100, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 2, 2019. Born February 25, 1919, Bonnie was the daughter of the late James Henry Thomas and Collie Leora Wall Matthews. She married Conard Martin Brown on November 18, 1934 (deceased). Living in Yadkin County most of her life, Bonnie was known for being a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, homemaker, cook extraordinaire, quilter, seamstress, farmer, caregiver, gardener, butcher, and neighbor. She loved quilting and collecting and dressing dolls. Her chicken and dumplings and apple pie were a major highlight at family reunions and church homecomings. She attended Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Boonville and was a member of Forbush Friends Meeting in East Bend.
Bonnie is survived by: daughter Carol Miller of Boonville, son Ronda Lee (Kay) Brown of Boonville and daughter Catherine (Phil) Shaw of Greensboro; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister Patty Sue Smitherman of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by two sons, C.D. Brown and Rayford Brown; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; nine brothers; and, two sisters.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be 2 PM Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Forbush Friends Meeting with the Reverends Robin Fitzgerald and Ray Lambe officiating. Her body will lie in state at the church from 1-2 PM, and the family will visit with friends at the church immediately following the service on Wednesday.
