Beverly D. (Wolfanger) Dunning

Mrs. Beverly D. Wolfanger Dunning, age 74, of State Road, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital.

Beverly was born on June 18, 1951, in Steuben County, New York, to the late Donald Wolfanger and Emma Rook Wolfanger. She was a graduate of Haverling High School in Bath, New York.

Beverly was a devoted wife, mother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Bill Dunning; her son, Roger Varner; her daughters, Bridgett Herndon, Heidi Goodman, and Jessica Dunning; and her cherished coworkers at Ingles Grocery, who she considered extended family.

In addition to her parents, Beverly was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Rebecca Smith.

Beverly enjoyed knitting and crocheting, finding joy and comfort in creating things by hand.   Beverly and Bill made North Carolina their home for the past 33 years, where they built a life filled with love, hard work, and community.  Alongside her husband, she loved gardening and canning the fruits of their labor.

Throughout her career, Beverly worked at GNC for 20 years, served as a dietician at Central Continuing Care, and most recently worked at Ingles Grocery, where she was well known for her dedication and friendly spirit.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
