Betty Hunter Johnston July 20, 1936 - August 2, 2025
Betty was born in Surry County to Elsie Lee Hunter and Clara Bell Creed Hunter. She graduated from Elkin High School in 1956. Betty married Luther W. Johnston in September of 1960. With this marriage, they had three children Frankie Johnston, Pam (Mark) Foster, and Thomas (Renee) Johnston; three grandchildren Brett (Hannah) Johnston, Nick (Alyssa) Foster, and Allison Johnston; and five great-grandchildren Gabriella, Halleigh, Luke, Ryan, and River.
She was preceded in death by her husband Luther, her parents Elsie and Clara Bell, and her brother Johnny.
In addition to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she is also survived by a sister Willie Mae Matthews.
Betty was a homemaker and loved to dry apples and make homemade fried apple pies and also enjoyed making her own canned grape juice. She also made very good coconut chocolate pies. She enjoyed her tv shows Chicago PD, Chicago Fire, and Law and Order. If these shows were not on she simply said that she had nothing to watch. Betty also enjoyed doing search a word puzzle books. In her younger years, Betty sang in the choir at New Home United Methodist Church where she was a member.
Great Nana adored the last two great-grandchildren Ryan and River because she spent more time with them. Nana loves you!
Mom we love you and are going to miss you!
