Mr. Larry W. Johnston, age 71, of East Bend left his earthly body to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday June 21, 2018.
Mr. Johnston was born on August 22, 1946 in Forsyth County to the late James W. Johnston and Eva Wilhelm Johnston.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother Johnny W. Johnston.
Johnston proudly served his county in the Vietnam Era and retired from RJ Reynolds after 37 years. Larry married his highschool sweetheart Ruth. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.. He enjoyed traveling with his grandchildren and family and taught them to appreciate God’s wonders such as the moon, stars, and sunsets. As a true Christian death is only the beginning. Psalm 23: The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Ruth, of the home; one son Terry W. Johnston and wife Joy of Mount Airy; one brother George W. Johnston and wife “Boots” of East Bend; two sisters Mary Catherine Matthews and husband Jerry and Barbara Johnston both of East Bend; two grandchildren Abbie and Landon W. Johnston; and several nieces and nephews and loving in-laws.
