The soul of Glenna Mae Hicks of Pembroke, NC took flight June 10, 2018. Predeceased by her parents Clyde and Mary Hicks of Pilot Mountain and brother, J. C. (Jake) Hicks of East Bend. Left to hold tight to memories are sister, Doris Hicks Nabors of Keystone Heights, FL, one aunt, Irene Hicks of Morganton, numerous cousins, special friend Emma Locklear and many, many more friends—human and canine. A charismatic teacher who brought history to life; she lit a fire for learning in her students. She took pride in work with NCAE, was President of Robeson Association of Educators and on Board of Directors of NCAE, then President of NCAE UNISERV. Selected as Teacher of the Year at WRHS 1987-88 and chosen as Teacher of the Year for Robeson County. She also wrote an Education column for THE ROBESONIAN. After retiring from teaching she was President of Robeson County Claws and Paws Rescue and often had dogs in foster care at her home.
Glenna requests no Memorial service as her life serves as her Memorial—a lifetime of loving and giving. She was a member of Pilot Mountain Friends Meeting. Huff Funeral Home of East Bend, NC will handle interment next to her brother at Pinnacle Baptist Church.
