Elsie Davis Obituary

On April 19th, 2019 Elsie Rodgers Davis left her earthly home to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior.

Born in Surry County on March 17th, 1930 to the late Walter Franklin and Annie Simmons Rodgers, Elsie completed her schooling at Shoals School and is survived by her loving sister Jean (Ted) Rodgers Mitchell and sister-in-law Mae Ruth Rodgers.

She married on October 13th, 1951 to the late William Calvin “Bill” Davis and spent her life serving and caring for her home, family, community and church. Elsie worked hard beside her husband on their tobacco farm in East Bend. She was a loving mother to her 8 children, Calvin (Linda) Davis, Frances (Bobby) Key, Jeanette (Larry) Beane, Cora (Randy) Beane, Aileen Davis-Cockerham, Sandra (Jerry) Adams, Roger (Vickie) Davis and Joyce (Jeff) Boni. She was lovingly called Mema by her 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren who adored her. Elsie’s legacy of faith, perseverance and kindness is a lasting tribute to the matriarch that can be seen throughout multiple generations of her cherished family.

Elsie was an active member of the Yadkin County Extension Club for many years and played a role in bringing a Public Library to the East Bend Community. She loved to travel and often took bus trips with her closet friends. In her later years, Elsie spent a large amount of time at the East Bend Senior Center assisting with meals and taking part in fun activities. Her strong will, fighting spirit and never wavering faith shined throughout her life, especially during her battle with cancer.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Bernice Rodgers.

Elsie was a devoted member of East Bend Baptist Church where family will receive friends from 1-3 pm on Monday April 22nd, 2019. A service will follow at 3 pm with Dr. Frank Wood and Pastor Allen Boggs officiating. A small graveside service will be held immediately after at Macedonia Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to East Bend Baptist Church or Macedonia Cemetery in care of Roger Davis (2929 Davis Road East Bend, NC 27018).
