Mrs. Dovie Evonne Whitaker Hutchens, age 90 wife of Ralph Gurney Hutchens who proceeded her in death on November 23, 1998.  Dovie passed away on Sunday July 2, 2017 after 5 years of declining health.

Dovie was born on May 26, 1927 in Surry County to the late Floyd Osbourne and Fannie Leota Eads Whitaker. She was a member of Union Cross Friends Meeting Church. She retired from Yadkin Nursing Care Center.  Dovie was a loving mother, friend, and neighbor.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister Virginia Myrtle (Clayton) Poindexter; three brothers Wayne Osborne Whitaker, Willie Granville (Linda) Whitaker, and Lacy Martin (Nancy) Whitaker; and a brother in law James Poindexter.

Surviving are a son Timothy Ralph and daughter in law Joyce Hutchens of East Bend; two sisters Leavora Mae Poindexter of Yadkinville and Frances Gail (Floyd) Baugus of Pollocksville, NC; one sister in law Nancy Geraldine Calloway Whitaker of King, NC; and several nieces and nephews.  Dovie also has several friends and neighbors whom she loved dearly and have supported her over the years since Ralph passed away.

The family would like to thank Dovie’s friends and neighbors as well as the staff of Yadkin Nursing Care Center who have cared for her and the family. 

A graveside service for Dovie will be held at 11am on Thursday July 6, 2017 at Union Cross Friends Meeting Cemetery with the Pastor Robin Dixon officiating.  Dovie will lie in state on Wednesday July 5, 2017 from 8:30am – 7pm at Huff Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Union Cross Friends Meeting Cemetery Fund at 2533 Union Cross Church Road Yadkinville, NC 27055.
