Mrs. Alida Belle Dougherty Bates, 92, of East Bend, passed away on September 25, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. Bates was born on August 3, 1925 to the late James A. and Julia Boyd Dougherty in Panama City, Panama.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William Thomas Bates, two brothers Jim Dougherty and Bill Dougherty, and sister Betty Third.

Those left to cherish her memory are: three daughters Nancy Matthews of East Bend, Susan Edwards and husband Ron of King, and JoAnne Lawson and husband Rex of King; a brother Jack Dougherty and wife Jane of Winston-Salem; two granddaughters Nikki Davis and husband Craig and Jennifer Bowen and husband Kelly; five great-grandchildren Josh, Jeff, Cheyenne, Arianna and Paige; and nephew John Dougherty.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Bates will be held at 5:30 pm on September 28, 2017 at Huff Funeral Home with Pastor Casey Bradford officiating.
