Chesterfield 01/02/1960 - 03/17/2016 Steven Orville Streight, 56, of Chester, VA., formerly of Winston Salem, NC was called home by the Lord at 3:15pm, Thursday, March 17, 2016 at his home after a two year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease). He was born January 2, 1960 in West Virginia to Sue Streight Pope and Clarence Streight. He is survived by his mother, Sue Pope of Chester, VA; daughter, Tiffany Streight of KY; sons, Justin Brown of VA, and Ronnie Backus of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; seven brothers, Clifford Plowman, James Winpigler (Nicole), Ricky Streight (Theresa), Michael Streight, Rob Pope (Linda), Shawn Pope, and Ritchie Pope; five sisters, Linda Sue Ramirez (Steve), Kimberly Casey-Fradd (Colin), Barbara Felix (Keith), Debra Vestal (Allen); numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Steve had a very special uncle, Thurman Plowman; cousin, Donna Hay Hart; and niece, Andrea Ramirez. Steve's father, Clarence Streight; dad, Bobby Pope; and brother, Maurice Winpigler preceded him in death. Steve was a longtime resident of Chester, VA. He worked for Acme Paper Company for 18 years and was a dedicated, well loved and respected employee. His childhood home of Winston-Salem was always calling him back. He loved to travel home for family gatherings, hunting, relaxing and visiting the place he loved. He was a true lover of boating, spending many hours fishing the waters of VA and NC. Steven had a passion for fast muscle cars and collected several beautiful mustangs throughout his life. Engines of any kind were his regular tinker toys. He was always fiddling with engines from cars to lawn mowers. He loved to start his garden each spring and work it until bearing fruit of his labor, a passion that he enjoyed sharing with others. Steve was a loving son, beloved brother, devoted father and generous friend. His 6'5" stature, blonde hair, ocean blue eyes, contagious smile and gentle character were some of the many qualities his family and friends enjoyed most. He was one of God's many gifts to this world and will be missed greatly. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Saturday, March 19 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 20 at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Reverend Mark Jordan will officiate.
