Sherry Griffin Messer, 50, of Boonville passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Ms. Messer was born December 15, 1964, in Bassett, VA to Cecil Griffin and Erma Sides. Early on in life, she had an adventurous spirit, lots of friends and a kind and gentle spirit. She loved music and fast cars and always did things her way.

As she moved along in life, she became a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked for seven years at Kaplan School Supply.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Emmett and Beatrice Padgett, and her paternal grandparents Curtis Lee and Alzia Viola Griffin.

She is survived by her mother, Erma Sides and her father, Cecil Griffin and girlfriend Karen McMillan; two sons Casey Messer and wife Christian, and Chris Messer and wife Courtney; granddaughter Emory; three sisters Rita Griffin Hoffmann and husband Erik, Laura Griffin, and Renee Griffin Harrison and husband Chad.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Huff Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tim Manning officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

The family would like to send special thanks to the staff of Forsyth Oncology Department and Dr. Cryssen, and to Erma’s family John and Ellen Spillman, Johnny Ray Spillman, Terri Cooke, Tammy Stewart, and Dallas and Lavern Cooke.
