Mrs. Ruby Kate Russell Shermer, 91, of East Bend passed away on May 16, 2016 at Woltz Hospice Home.

She was born on August 23, 1924 to the late William B. and Collie Hinshaw Russell.

Mrs. Shermer was the world’s greatest mother and homemaker. She was a member of Richmond Hill Baptist Church for 80 years and loved her church family dearly. She was an avid Tar Heel basketball fan.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shermer was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years James Shermer; three brothers Kenny Russell, Dewey Russell, and Don Russell; and one half sister Blanche Peace.

Those left to cherish her memory are two sons Gary Shermer of East Bend and Jim Shermer of Lewisville; and a very special niece Sherri Willard, and countless friends.

A funeral service for Mrs. Shermer will be held on Wednesday May 18, 2016 at 2pm at Richmond Hill Baptist Church with the Pastors Will Hamric and Dan Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1pm-2pm prior to the service. In Lieu of flowers and food, the family request donations to please be made to Mountain Valley Hospice of Yadkin County to be used for the building of their new Hospice Home.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Evan Ballard and staff for 30 years of care as well as to the 3rd floor medical staff at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. The family would also like to thank the home care girls Ashley, Krystal, and Cary Anne.
