Gladys Hazel Peeks, 91, formally of Elizabethton, TN, went to be with our Lord on August 21, 2015 at her home in East Bend, NC.

She was born on January 17, 1924 to the late Frank Russell and Allie Edith Calloway.

She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband William (Bill) Edgar Peeks, her daughter Emma Lee Stanbery, her grandson William (Dusty) Stewart, two brothers Sgt. Junior R. Calloway and Paul R. Calloway, one sister Carrie Dunn Carley and other family members.

Gladys is survived by two daughters Shirley (Hubert) Stanbery of Clemmons, Billie Joyce (Alan) Hill of East Bend, one son Eddie (Sandy) Peeks of Clemmons, and a loving son-in-law Howard Stanbery of Shady Valley, TN, one granddaughter: Jennifer (Doug) Deslich of Tiger, GA, seven grandsons: Bryan (Kim) Stanbery of Mocksville, David (Stacie) Stanbery of Lusby, MD, Brad (Becky) Stanbery of Kernersville, Eric (Tina) Stanbery of Lewisville, Daniel (Katie) Hill of Fenton, MO, Jody (Miranda) Leftwich of Boonville, and Scottie (Nicole) Leftwich of Winston-Salem; seven great-grandsons: Timothy (Courtney) Stanbery, McKinley Stanbery, Josh Stanbery, Brandon Stewart, Caleb Hill, Dakota Creason, and Hayden Deslich; six great-granddaughters: Kali Stanbery, Lindsey Stanbery, Megan Stanbery, Larkin Stanbery, Sarah Fayth Leftwich, and Rylynn Leftwich; one great-great-granddaughter Irie Stanbery and a special family friend Nicholas D’Amato.

Gladys is also survived by two sisters Ina Mae Campbell and Charlotte (Herman) Crumley of Elizabethton, TN, and one aunt Mary Bowers of Elizabethton, TN, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Huff Funeral Home, East Bend, and will follow with the Celebration and Memory Service at 4 pm. Music and song will be by her daughter-in-law Sandy Peeks and her grandson Jody Leftwich.

Internment and a memorial service will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, TN on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 1pm. Herman Crumley will officiate at the gravesite. Anyone wishing to attend the memorial service, please meet at Tetrick Funeral Home at 12:15 pm in Elizabethton, TN.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons and Honorary Pallbearers will be the great-grandsons.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorial be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC (Davie Team) or your own local Hospice. We would like to send special thanks to our Hospice Davie Team and especially to our loving aide Baily McCormick.
