TOBACCOVILLE - Betty Sue Cecile Moore, 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 27, 2017 surrounded by her family after a very long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Betty was born in Guilford County on August 30, 1935 to Reece Theodore and Lynetta Newman Cecile. She was the oldest of their nine children. Betty attended Rural Hall School where she met Jack Ray Moore, who she would marry March 7, 1954 in Chester, SC. They were married for over 61 years until his passing in 2015. She was employed with The Salem Company, Royal Cake Company and Hanes Hosiery before becoming co-owner of their own grading company, Jack R Moore Grading in 1970.

Betty and Jack were blessed with three children- Teresa, Jack Jr., and Jason. Through the years, Betty “Ma”, Jack “Pa” and their whole family would make many trips to Daytona Beach, FL for NASCAR Speedweeks or to the mountains of Tennessee. Family has always been the most important thing to her even with her favorite hobby of bowling. Betty and her family would usually make up two teams on the Thursday night Automotive League at Jonestown/Creekside Lanes. Betty attended The First Baptist Church of Stanleyville and Woodland Baptist Church over the years and was of the Baptist faith.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her infant son Jack Jr., two brothers- David Cecile and Donald Cecile, and brother in law Ernest Horton. She is survived by her children- Teresa (Van)Shelton of Tobaccoville and Jason (Angie) Moore of the home; three grandchildren- Heather Shelton, Andrew (Alexa)Shelton, and Jacob Moore; one precious great-granddaughter Abigail Shelton. She is also survived by sisters- Shirley Horton, Kay (Lane) Idol, Nancy (Jim) Shipley; brothers- Richard Cecile, Paul (Carol)Cecile, Jerry (Gina) Cecile; half-brother- Ronald (Jennifer) Cecile; sister-in-law’s Diane Cecile, Dora Lee Shouse, brother-in-law James “Shorty” Moore, beloved nephew Tim Horton and many other nieces and nephews.

We would also like to thank the nurses and aides with Hospice and Palliative Care of Walnut Cove- Beth Smith, Brittany Collins, Teresa Rosser and many more over all the years they have cared for Betty through this battle. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
